Tracing the origin of walnut wood carving, we go back to the 18th century, when in the valley of Kashmir the men though candid, but full of intricate artistic zest, had aesthetic sense charged with incredible patience. Using these talents to carve on wood. Walnut wood came into use during the 20th Century, when the Maharaja of Kashmir exhibited the artistic ability of these people by exhibiting this art around the world.

The Walnut tree is known as the "Reserved tree" and it is illegal to cut it down before it is fully withered. It is then cut and sliced and kept in the open air for two years to season, and before it reaches completion it undergoes, carpentry, carving and then finishing.
